'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, january 8th. >>> we begin with continuing coverage of the near disaster on the san francisco bay that we first covered on ktvu channel 2 news at noon yesterday. this morning, the u.s. coast guard will meet with the pilot of the oil tanker that sideswiped a tower of the bay bridge. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live with new details about this bar pilot's past. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. a coast guard spokesperson tells me there will be an update on this investigation coming after the team is briefed at 8:00 this morning. we do know that investigators will be sitting down later today and talking with the pilot at the controls of this 750-foot oil tanker when it struck one of the bay bridge towers. he's identified as george close with eight years experience. he did pass an alcohol test yesterday and the results of a drug test may come back today. yesterday's accident yesterday after the vessel was heading back to sea. there was heavy fog in the area at the time. that cut visibility on the bay to just about a

into what led an oil tanker to hit the base of the bay bridge continues. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. this morning, the pilot's whose tanker struck -- who struck the bay bridge is interviewed by the coast guard. cal has more >> reporter: the ship is still out here in the san francisco bay. the 750-tanker hit one of the support towers of the bay bridge yesterday around 11:00 in foggy conditions. authorities say no oil was leak. the ship had just unloaded at a martinez refinery. the coast guard officials told us this morning a little bit more about its investigation. >> we're gonna continue to interview important members of the crew which includes the pilot and we'll also continue to interview members -- coast guard members who responded to the scene and find out what -- try to get more clues as to what happened. >> reporter: ktvu has learned the pilot passed an alcohol test yesterday. that pilot, george kleess, has eight years of experience but has had some problems in the past. now according to state records, kleess ran aground brieffully a sacramento river on august 27th of 2009. th

and campbell, you are seeing the rain dropping in from the northeast. rotating down towards the southwest right now. into the east bay hills. tri-valley, you'll see off-and-on rain showers until probably through lunchtime until the action, early afternoon will be from san jose into morgan hill. the low pressure is tracking across monterey bay and heading into central california. the moisture will slowly get out of the bay area, early afternoon, and then eventually we'll dry things out as we head into the evening. as the low continues to school into central california, a couple of things we'll see today will be the winds picking up out of the northwest which will clear out the skies north of san francisco. but those showers may be a little more stubborn around san jose into maybe early afternoon. the future cast showing you the south bay, clear, lingering showers closer to san jose. mid-afternoon, things shut down and we just see a few clouds drifting into tomorrow morning. no worries about rain for your monday morning commute. with the cloud cover and showers, lasting a little bit longer, it wi

in campbell over the holidays. jackson dakota was killed by a hit and run driver on december 23rd. the family says he was struck along the expressway and campbell avenue. so far there are no witnesses to the crash and the family says investigators with the chp are not providing many answers. after our phone call, the chp said it would speak with the family. family members say they were told that the suspect's vehicle might be a white gmc truck with frond end damage. >> a science teacher is being called a hero tonight after another school shooting. this time it happened here in california. it happened at taft union high school in kern county. that's about 40 miles south of bakersfield. the sheriff's dep says the 16-year-old student shot a classmate just after 8:30 this morning. a science teacher at that school quickly inner vened and convinced the shooter to put the shotgun down. the suspect was then arrested. the victim is expected to survive. no word yet on the motive, but other students at the school say the shooter was known as a loner. >> this shooting comes as the vice president held a m

showers through the morning hours. continuing to pick up light rain over campbell. cupertino and if i shift over a a little bit. this is the pink mix, rain and snow. some of the highest peaks in and around 4,000 feet or higher than that perhaps, a bit of a dusting for areas near mount hamilton this morning. along 680, light rain and milpitas seeing sprinkles at 580. pleasanton and few sprinkles and we watch the rainfall over areas near pittsburgh and highway four. this is tapering off. it is sliding south. as we back it up, it is easy to see how it is shifting south. we are getting the wrap around showers. this will begin to dwindle, by the afternoon. we are left with partly cloudy and dry conditions. here we are. 8:00 still, few scattered showers and they are still here. they continue to move south. still with us. by moon time. and dry. partly cloudy skies and into sunset. about 5:05. what can we expect temperature wise. 40s out the door this morning. we are five to 10 degrees warmer than we were yesterday. with the overcast skies. it is cool and breezy. mostly cloudy and upper 40s a
